Warner Bros. Splits ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’

Posted by Dan Stasiewski On January - 15 - 2008

Looks like Warner Bros. is trying to do a little extra cashing in on the Harry Potter franchise. The Mail is reporting that the seventh Harry Potter film, base on the seventh and final Harry Potter film will actually be two movies.

I’ve watched the franchise mature over the years into a stunning epic fantasy series. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which thankfully took some liberties with J.K. Rowling’s story, was the best of the bunch. It was also the shortest film despite being based on the longest book. And here I was hoping that whatever convoluted narrative led to the contrived ending of Deathly Hallows book would be repaired for the film version.

Now we are looking at a 5 hour final Harry Potter film when the two parts combined. Of course Warner is just looking at the extra $1 billion it will make when it releases an the eighth film in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II. Here’s hoping the series continues to improve instead of destroying the franchise in its final act.

You know, like Mannequin 2: On the Move. That was a tragedy.
