Maybe it was the controversy or maybe the closed door bidding war for this pic was more intense than expected. Either way, Sundance award winner Push finally found a home today at Lionsgate Pictures.

THR reports that the Weinsteins were also interested in the project, but director Lee Daniels’ previous relationship with Lionsgate (they distributed the Daniels-produced Monster’s Ball) may have won out. Plus, Lionsgate is just more hip. That has to count for something.

Despite the grim subject matter, Push may be seen by an even bigger audience than anticipated. Both Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry are going to add their names to the project’s release. Get ready for Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry Present Push: Based on the Novel by Sapphire. Longest. Title. Ever.
