I never finished watching Jenji Kohan’s last series Weeds. For me that show was over after season 3 when (spoiler alert) the Agrestic burned to the ground.
But that’s not going to stop me from watching Kohan’s new series, Orange is the New Black. The show is based on the true story of Piper Chapman, a Smith College graduate with a boyfriend and a career, who is sent to prison as a result of her relationship with a drug smuggler 10 years earlier. So this isn’t straying too far from the suburb for the creator of Weeds.
Orange is the New Black is also the latest in a series of original releases from the streaming video services after House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, and Arrested Development‘s fourth season. Even if Hemlock Grove was awful, the other two series were some of the best television you’ll ever see. Let’s see if Netflix can make it three out of four.
