MACHINE GUN PREACHER trailer
I can honestly say I’ve never disliked a Marc Forster picture. The director of Monster’s Ball, Stranger Than Fiction, and Finding Neverland, my personal favorite, returns with a movie that I would probably not see where he not at the helm: Machine Gun Preacher. What sounds like a B-movie is actually an inspirational action flick starring Gerard Butler as a reformed badass who finds his calling in the war-torn areas of Uganda and Sudan. Full synopsis: When ex-biker-gang member Sam Childers (Butler) makes the life-changing decision to go to East Africa to help repair homes destroyed by civil war, he is outraged by the unspeakable horrors faced by the region’s vulnerable populace, especially the children. Ignoring the warnings of more experienced aide workers, Sam breaks ground for an orphanage where it’s most needed in the middle of territory controlled by the...

Apparently a $250 million Western comedy for a star that turned a pirate comedy into a multi-billion dollar franchise was just too high a price tag for Disney. The studio pulled the plug on Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger, which was to star Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger. (DHD) Yeah, baby, yeah. Mike Myers is ready for a fourth Austin Powers film. As Hitfix puts it, he’s signed, sealed and delivered. (HitFix) In other sequel news, a third Bridget Jones movie is officially in the works at Working Title Films. EW points out that last year franchise costar Colin Firth said the film would focus on Bridget and Darcy discovering they can’t have a child. (EW) Documentary filmmaker Nick Broomfield needs your help. The BAFTA nominee started a Kickstarter campaign to get his latest...

I wasn’t at Comic Con, but I was following the events unfold on Twitter. One panel in particular had film writers tweeting like crazy: Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt announcement. Nobody really knew what the man who gave us The Godfather and Apocalypse Now was talking about when hit introduced the concept for this horror film. But two things were clear: the film would go on tour and each screening would be remixed for that specific audience. (That’s enough to get most cinemaniacs in the door.) Now we know a little more. Twixt will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival and the fest released the first trailer for Coppola’s high-concept film experience. Check it out: Sure, it doesn’t look like a movie from one of the men who reinvented an industry oh so long ago. It looks almost, dare I...

Director Evan Glodell will premiere his directorial debut, Bellflower, at SXSW this week. And that car in the poster? If you’re lucky enough to be at SXSW, you can see it in person, flamethrowers and all. So what’s Bellflower about? Woodrow and Aiden spend all of their free time building Mad Max inspired flame-throwers and weapons of mass destruction in preparation for a global apocalypse in which their imaginary gang “Mother Medusa” can emerge on top. But when Woodrow meets a charismatic young woman and falls hard in love, he and Aiden quickly integrate into a new group of friends, setting off on a journey of betrayal, love, hate, infidelity, and extreme violence more devastating and fiery than any of their apocalyptic fantasies. Bellflower, directed by and starring Glodell, hits theaters on July 22,...
