There’s A GLEE Stage Musical In The Works, Which Is Totally A Great Idea
Remember way back when Moulin Rouge! was a hit? The next logical step for that movie was to take it to the stage. One short German touring production later and that adaptation seems to be dead. Wel,l 21st Century Fox Television doesn’t seem to be content with 20th Century Fox’s failed stage musical experiment because now it appear that Glee could be coming to a stage near you.
According to The Wrap, 21st Century Fox Television chairman and CEO Gary Newman revealed plans for the musical recently saying: “We launched a live stage business with a sold-out arena concert tour in 2011, and now a live stage musical is in the works.”
Glee does have one thing Moulin Rouge! didn’t have, which is experience with live performances. Of course, Glee isn’t the show it was when the live concerts were going around the country. Its ratings have slipped from the height of the shows popularity. And I don’t know anyone who still watches the show like they used to.
There was even a point when I really liked Glee. And I’m programmed to love musicals, so every once in a while, the show pulls me back in. (Darren Criss singing “Hopelessly Devoted to You” is ir-re-sis-ti-ble.) Still, there’s nothing that would get me to see a Glee stage musical when there are so many other shows that I would love to see. (Kinky Boots, I’m looking in your direction.) But I’m probably not the target audience anyway. I still don’t know how to use SnapChat.
